Welcome to wintry Warsaw and the first Warsaw In Your Pocket of 2018! The start of a new year brings with it a fresh and frigid start. While the weather may not be ‘tourist friendly’ per se, cold temperatures and snow drifts are the perfect excuse to get inside to see some of Warsaw’s many amazing museums. That said, it’s no surprise it can be cold in winter, and some people love to be out and about in the cold clime. Whatever your area of interest may it be Art, History, Science, Music, Religion, Jewish History – Warsaw’s got you covered. We personally recommend our new Communist Warsaw Walking Tour (p.8) to get a feel for why Warsaw looks the way it does today, or stick to classical Warsaw with our updated Chopin’s Warsaw Walking Tour (p.90). Make sure to check out our Sightseeing (p.74) to read up on all of Warsaw’s essential sights. February and March also typically bring with them a flurry of indoor entertainment options as well and 2018 doesn’t disappoint. Check page 22 for a list of events taking place in the city over the festive period. As always, let us know how you got on in Warsaw on our FB page and/or show us what you’ve seen during your time in the city by using the hashtag #warsawinyourpocket through Instagram, or if you prefer, just use good old fashioned email: email@example.com.
Despite new glass towers being added to Warsaw’s ever changing skyline, still, Socialist Realist architecture dominates the city centre. Here, despite being surrounded, the Palace of Culture and Science stands out amongst the rest. Photo: Adobe Stock.
